Painting classes
Learn a range of techniques and styles in this broad and varied mixed ability art class.
We run an eight-week evening course in painting in the University's autumn and spring terms. The courses are open to VR成人视频 students, staff and members of the public (age 16+).
They are suitable for all ability levels and take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on campus.
Subject to tutor and room availability, we run a course over the summer, which can vary in length from six to ten weeks.
Painting and Drawing: The Art of Mixed Media (autumn 2026)
For the autumn term 2026, our Painting and Drawing Evening Classes will focus on mixed media.
Mixed media art is an expressive creative style that combines two or more different materials or artistic techniques into a single piece. The course will explore how layering, collage, texture, and other experimental techniques such as printing and writing can be incorporated to create expressive artwork, which can also carry a personal narrative.
The media will include acrylic, gouache, ink, pencil, pen, combined with collage materials such as magazines or paper, fabric and other fragments of waste materials.
You will learn how to create texture through paint, as well as drawing and handwritten text to build depth and meaning through layers. As well as practical content, the sessions will also incorporate an element of art history – looking at the work of various artists and learning when different techniques emerged and why.
The classes provide a supportive and safe environment and are suitable for all abilities, from complete beginners to advanced learners.
Please note that this class is not open to Under 16s.
Course details
Classes will run every Tuesday and Thursday, 6.30-9pm from w/c 19 October to w/c 7 December 2026. It is exactly the same content for both days, attendees choose which day to sign up for. The classes take place in MHL0.13 (ground floor),

Parking
Visitors are required to register their vehicle and pay to park on campus. There is a flat evening rate of £2 after 6pm.

Accessibility
MHL0.13 is on the ground floor of Martin Hall and there is step-free access into the building. An accessible toilet is located along the ground floor corridor.

How to book
Priority booking for our mailing list subscribers will open on Wednesday 16 September at 10am. Following this, any remaining places will go on general sale (subject to availability) on Friday 18 September at 10am. To access the priority booking, please subscribe to our mailing list by 9am on Monday 14 September.
Bookings are online only via Eventbrite. Please be aware that demand for places at these classes is very high.
Refunds and Cancellations
We will issue refunds for cancellations (minus Eventbrite fees) up to seven days prior to the first class, but no refunds will subsequently be issued unless a class is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged.
Tutor - Jacqui Gallon
Jacqui Gallon gained a Bachelor of Education Degree in Textiles in the late 1970s, followed by a teaching career in Secondary schools in Leicester. In 2010, she embarked on an Art History course at Leicester University and became so interested in the history of painting that she came to Loughborough, as a mature student, to study on a Foundation Course. She went on to undertake her Masters Degree, exploring printmaking and textile assemblage, combined with painting, to explore the theme of bereavement and loss. She is currently a PhD researcher at Loughborough.
Alongside her academic research, Jacqui has a multi-disciplinary art practice which includes painting, printmaking, textile assemblage, performance and photography. She utilises many different materials in order to explore themes of care, loss, memory and care.
Jacqui also works as a community arts project curator, working with asylum seeker women and other groups with mental health issues. Teaching painting forms an important part of this community practice. She is interested in the ‘language of materials’, and uses playful approaches to explore how ideas can be expressed.
Jacqui has been a member of the Leicester Society of Artists and has been awarded several prizes for her paintings. In 2019, she was awarded a bursary to undertake a residency in Orkney which brought together printmaking and archaeology. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Siao Long Cultural Park, Tainan, Taiwan.
