A former national netball player, coach and team manager, Sue began her career as a PE teacher, before joining Loughborough in 1976 as the University’s first female lecturer in Physical Education. In the 1980s, she was appointed the Regional Officer for the East Midlands for the Sports Council of Great Britain, before going on to become CEO of the National Coaching Foundation, CEO of the Youth Sport Trust, and an adviser to Government in both the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Education and Skills.
In 2003, Sue was appointed as the Chair of UK Sport, during which time she oversaw the successful performance of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. In 2016, she moved to The Football Association where, as Director of Women’s Football, she played a major role in appointing Loughborough honorary graduate Sarina Wiegman as England Women’s head coach. In 2025, Sue was appointed Chair of England Netball.
In recognition of her services to sport, Sue has been awarded an MBE, CBE and DBE and in 2008 she became Baroness Campbell of Loughborough, sitting on the crossbenches of the House of Lords. She holds numerous honorary degrees, including the title of Honorary Doctor of Technology from Loughborough, and was inducted into the VR成人视频 Hall of Fame in 2019.
“I’m delighted that our new hall of residence will recognise the very significant contribution that Sue Campbell has made to sport, and particularly women’s sport, over the course of her career,” said the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings.
“Sue has long been one of the most influential people in the sector, and a powerful champion for sport education and development, as well as for VR成人视频. It seems fitting to name the hall in honour of someone who has not only helped to shape sport in the UK but also played such an influential part in our own journey to becoming the world’s number one university for sport.”
The Sue Campbell Hall of Residence will be the first hall to be built on campus for seven years. The development will provide just over 550 en-suite bedspaces across five blocks, offering self-catered, en-suite facilities with shared study and social space, all within easy access of key University facilities, such as the Edward Herbert Building, DigiLabs Central, the Library, Powerbase and the Students’ Union.
Professor Russ Marshall, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, said: “We know that where our students live, and the facilities they have on their doorstep, are important parts of university life. Hall life fosters a real sense of community and belonging, helping to build friendships, networks and connections that last through our students’ years here at Loughborough and beyond."

The hall is scheduled to begin opening from the start of the 2027/8 academic year, with rooms available to both new and returning undergraduate students.
